Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

If you're into witches and euro trash, 2010 is shaping to be a really good year for you.

Numero uno: Tommy Wirkola, known as the director of Dead Snow - the Norwegian horror comedy with freakin' Nazi zombies - is set to direct Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. The film will follow the adventures of the titular characters "15 years after that whole gingerbread house incident." Long story short, in this film Hansel and Gretel will be specialized witch hunters. I said euro trash, didn't I? Well, if it is as fun as Dead Snow is, then it will be OK for at least one viewing.

In the other news, the remake of Dario Argento's Suspiria is definitely going forward, and it looks like one Natalie Portman has just joined the project. Some have raised eyebrows over this casting choice, possibly considering it a good sign for the remake, but I still need convincing. One thing is for sure, though - there is no way in the world the Suspiria remake will be worse than the Videodrome one.

In the meantime, the DVD of the French flick Martyrs just came out. If you have the chance, go out and grab it. It might be a bit hard on the stomach but it makes up for it with mindblowing story and direction - the kind that leaves you thinking about the film hours and days afterwards.
